The whole day flows out of one strait
An alternate imagination of the same board. Here the floor is a hydrographic chart, gravity is depth, and the deepest sounding on the page is a blockade you cannot see from shore. The inflation gauge in the harbor reads at 8:30; the water it measures comes from the Gulf.
Exhibit one: the choke
Two of tomorrow's heaviest threads, the inflation print and the Gulf crisis, are the same body of water read at two depths. The CPI energy component is priced here, at the Strait of Hormuz, where a dual naval blockade keeps the channel effectively closed.
blockade · effective close
26.6N · 56.3E
CPI (May), 8:30 AM. Consensus plus 0.5 percent month over month and 4.2 percent year over year on the headline, the largest annual gain since April 2023, core plus 0.3 percent. The energy branch ships if gasoline carries the headline; the tariff pass-through is the quieter burden-shift read. FACTREPORTED
Iran-US ceasefire, intraday. Trump floats a signed deal in two or three days. The mutual halt holds, conditioned on Israeli strikes in Lebanon stopping, with the 24 billion dollar frozen-asset release named as the talks price. A fragile halt riding on a promise, not a signed text. REPORTEDLebanon trip wire
The supply-side mirror, the EIA petroleum report at 10:30 AM, takes the third sounding of the same water and is the item most likely to be lost between the two giants.
Five readings, deepest first
On a chart, the larger number is the deeper water. Here depth is coverage gravity, an estimate of which events will pull tomorrow's narrative down toward them. Each column sinks to its sounding as you reach it.
T01CPI (May), 8:30 AM
The inflation number and the Gulf crisis are the same story split in two; the energy component is priced by the Hormuz blockade.
T02Iran-US ceasefire and Hormuz blockade
A fragile halt riding on a promise, not a signed text, with Lebanon as the trip wire.
T03FISA §702 lapse countdown, 2 days
A core surveillance authority is closer to going dark than the calendar implies; watch for a declassification timed to move votes.
T05DoD Section 1260H China designation publishes
A list that normally drives a week of corporate and Hill reaction, at risk of under-coverage under a hot CPI and a live Gulf crisis.
T04SASC NDAA FY2027 markup wraps, 9 AM
The room stays closed, so the news is the released topline and the Iran and Indo-Pacific provisions, not testimony.
8:30 holds the high water
No three-item, over-70, same-hour clash sits on the clock tomorrow. The collision is a tide, not a schedule: one fixed-time giant at the open, and one unscheduled giant, the Iran thread, that can crest at any hour and pull the first back out with it.
The morning block from 9 to 10:30 stacks the security mechanisms, the NDAA topline, the China designation, and the EIA crude line, under the shadow of a once-since-2023 inflation print that will starve them of coverage. The China designation (T05) is the most under-covered high-value sounding on the chart. Watch for the agency-only follow-up by late afternoon.
Read against yesterday's chart
Yesterday's imagination, The Archival Ledger, charted a ceasefire announced but not signed, and a surveillance law four days from lapsing in its shade. The log records how the water moved overnight.
What we knew
- Iran-US. Ceasefire announced, not signed; energy spike already feeding the read.
- FISA §702. Four days out, 47-52 cloture failure, SAFE Act the live vehicle.
- CPI. Yesterday was eve, no print.
- Energy / utilities. The dimension was dark on the chart.
What we learned today
- It is CPI day. The May print lands tomorrow 8:30 AM and anchors the chart.New · depth 82
- The blockade prices the print. The dual naval blockade keeps Hormuz closed; energy sets the CPI energy line directly.Hardened · same water
- Energy-cost convergence surfaces. Utilities no longer dark: PA PUC Peoples Gas hearings and the EIA report both fire, both downstream of the Gulf shock.Newly discovered
- 702 clock tightens. Two days out now; the Pulte acting-DNI fight still entangles the Democratic count.Advanced 2 days
What we watch next
- Iran-US. The CENTCOM or Treasury readout that hardens or breaks the halt.Next · 48-hour durability
- Section 702. Any ODNI declassification timed to the June 12 lapse fight.Next · 2 days
- Frozen assets. The 24 billion is the price, but no OFAC instrument has given it legal form.News when one does
- PPI (May). Thursday June 11 tells you who absorbs the cost.Next · June 11
