Pennsylvania has two hundred and sixty nine days. Then a hospital's records are gone.
A bankruptcy court has ordered the destruction of every Crozer Health System patient record after March 2, 2027. That is 269 days from today. Atlanta Medical Center patients had 62. The math is not the point. What happens to the records is the point, and the point has a deadline.
If you ever went to Crozer, this clock is about you.
All Crozer Health System patient records will be destroyed after this date. Imaging records purchased by ChristianaCare are exempt. Everything else is on the calendar.
You've watched two American hospital systems close in the last four years. Was the math the same?
Three questions. The answers are quietly devastating. Take a guess before tapping a tile, then see what actually happened.
Wellstar announced the closure August 31, 2022. The hospital shut November 1.
That's roughly 9 weeks for one of metro Atlanta's two Level-I trauma centers — and the only Level-I serving downtown Atlanta — to wind down. The decision triggered emergency meetings of the Fulton County Hospital Authority, the City of Atlanta, and the State of Georgia. None of those meetings changed the closure date.
AMC was inside a going-concern health system. Wellstar absorbed the records and kept them accessible through its existing patient portal.
This is the quiet difference. Wellstar didn't go bankrupt — it closed an unprofitable hospital but continued operating. Federal HIPAA retention rules (6 years minimum, longer for minors and certain conditions) applied through Wellstar's living infrastructure. The records survived because the company did.
Prospect Medical filed Chapter 11. The bankruptcy court treats the records as an estate liability, not a healthcare asset.
The court approved destruction because warehousing them costs money the estate doesn't have. Morgan Records Management was designated as a single point of contact to manage the wind-down. After March 2, 2027, the storage contract ends and the destruction begins. There's no Wellstar to inherit them. There's no surviving company at all.
More notice and a worse outcome are not the same thing. The mechanism is the mechanism.
Two paths leave Prospect's filing cabinet. One survives the deadline.
In May 2025, ChristianaCare purchased a subset of outpatient assets and inherited their imaging records. Those survive. Everything else is on a different path. Watch the dots travel.
The red path is roughly 95% of the volume. The green path is the imaging records ChristianaCare bought. Most records were never imaging records. If you went to Crozer for cardiac, oncology, primary care, labor & delivery, behavioral health, or anything else that wasn't a scan, you're in the red.
Three quick checks. You'll know in 15 seconds.
Crozer Health System operated five hospitals in Delaware County and surrounding Philadelphia suburbs for over 100 years. Crozer-Chester Medical Center was the region's largest non-Penn-affiliated medical center. If you, your parents, or your children lived in southeast Pennsylvania between roughly 1990 and 2024, the chance you have records in this estate is not small.
Compute your stake.
Answer the questions above.
This brief is one expression of a pattern. Three Mechanism Series pieces describe other versions of it.
If the Crozer story feels familiar, that's because the Series has been mapping its skeleton for a while. Tap any card to read its companion.
The Closed Hospital
The Series's canonical document on what happens after a hospital shutters. Tracing a care cascade end-to-end. Crozer is the case study made literal: Atlantic, Hahnemann, now Delaware County. This brief is that report coming alive in real time.
The Class Engine
Healthcare is one of the five chapters of EP 08. When the hospital closes, the household's healthcare access compounds with employment, credit, housing. The Class Engine names the pattern; the Crozer bankruptcy makes it physical. The clock is the threshold.
Three Converging Clocks
Brief № 001 used a clock about elections. This brief uses a clock about records. Field Note 03 is the framework piece on why clocks are the right unit for civic intelligence. Mechanism = rhythm.
"The brief identifies a moment. The episode explains the pattern. The field note is the philosophy. You don't need to read in any particular order. The Series is a graph, not a queue."
If you, your parents, or your kids ever went to Crozer for anything, do this now.
The phrase "you have nine months" sounds like a lot. It is not. Records management requests at scale take time. The vendor is going to be busy. The system gets slower as the deadline approaches. Move now.
Request your Crozer medical records
Morgan Records Management is the single approved vendor for all Crozer record requests. They handle the paperwork. They are the official channel.

The county's page also covers behavioral-health support and employment support for affected Crozer workers. The labor side of a hospital closure has its own deadline.

The bankruptcy case dockets are public at the Omni Agent Solutions portal. Case ID 3725. Filings appear there before press coverage.
cases.omniagentsolutions.com/?clientId=3725Pennsylvania holds eight governance meetings today. One of them is in the county keeping these records.
Wednesday June 10, eight government bodies across Pennsylvania convene. Delaware County's UCC Board of Appeals meets at 3 PM. The Coastal Zone Task Force and Sustainability Commission meet Thursday. None will mention Prospect Medical by name. The bankruptcy update page is the receipt of the receipts.
Two new tenants joined the Infera L2 layer today: Pittsburgh's City Council via Legistar, and Delaware County via the Drupal + Granicus CivicClerk dual-platform setup.

The most consequential thing about a bankruptcy is not the bankruptcy. It is what the county does with the wreckage afterward, and whether anyone reads the page.
